Andrew T. Lamar, Principal
Andrew Lamar has served as Principal of Lamar Consulting since
forming the company in late 2012. Since that time, he has represented
a variety of clients before the General Assembly and three gubernatorial
administrations. Lamar Consulting works with trade associations and
businesses, large and small, to develop and advocate for good public
policy in Virginia. The firm also assists clients with multi-state
government affairs. Andrew currently works on issues related to energy,
health care, technology, gaming, economic development, and more.
Prior to forming Lamar Consulting, Andrew Lamar served as Policy
Advisor and Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs to Virginia Governor
Bob McDonnell. In that role, he helped develop legislative strategy and oversaw coordination between the Governor's Office, the Cabinet and the General Assembly to advance the Governor's policy agenda during the first three years of the administration. He advised on policies related to energy, natural resources, technology, veterans affairs, and homeland security. In addition to serving on Governor McDonnell's 2009 campaign for governor, his near decade of experience in Virginia state government and politics includes serving as Campaign Manager for House Speaker Bill Howell and advisor to other successful candidates for office in the General Assembly. Lamar worked as a Government Affairs Associate for Rhumb Line in Richmond from 2007 to 2009, where he lobbied for clients at the General Assembly and assisted others with multi-state government affairs issues. Lamar earned his Bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia and is a Linwood Holton Fellow graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at the University of Virginia. He lives in Richmond with his wife, Marit.
